Ann was born in 1780. Ann's father was Joseph Goody and her mother was Ann Wicker. She had three brothers and a sister, named Joseph, James, William and Bridget. She was the second oldest of the five children.

She was christened in St Andrews Church, Halstead, Essex on 23rd March 1780.
