Parish records show that he was christened on 22nd December 1899 in St Giles Church, Colchester, Essex by Henry Ruslidge, Curate on the same day as his sister, Gertrude Maud under the surname GOODY The family were living at 1 Dorset Place, Colchester, Essex at the time.
1901 Census shows he was 7 years of age, born in 1894 in Colchester and living at 6 Arthur Street, Colchester, Essex.
1911 Census shows that he was 17 years of age, born in Colchester, Essex and living in South Shields, Co. Durham.
