Elizabeth was born on April 12th, 1760. Elizabeth's father was John Goody and her mother was Mary Williams. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, Sarah and Mary. She was the fourth oldest of the five children.

Parish records show that she was christened in St Peter's Church, Birch, Essex on 27th April 1760.
