Male Thomas Goody

Thomas was born in 1819.  Thomas' father was John Goody and his mother was Rachel Seward.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Goody and Jane Pepper. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Elijah, John, Elisha, John, Hannah, Eliza, Mary and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.

General Notes

Parish records show that he was christened in St Mary's Church, Layer Breton, Essex on 25th December 1819 by R W Sutton.
1841 Census shows that he was 20 years of age, born in Essex and living in Layer Breton, Essex.
There is a discrepancy of two years in his age between the parish records and the 1841 census.
1861 Census shows he was 41 years of age, born in Hennington, Essex and living at White House, Layer Breton, Essex.  This census shows his surname as GOODAY.
1871 Census shows that he was 51 years of age and living in Lexden Stanway, Essex.  The census shows his surname as GOODY.
1881 Census shows that he was 61 years of age, born in Canewdon, Essex and living at Cottage, Layer Breton, Essex.  The surname is shown as GOODAY.  Their granddaughter Emma Court who is shown as being 5 years of age, born in Layer Breton, Essex was staying with Thomas and Ann on the night of the census.

Occupation Details

1841 Census shows that he was an Agricultural Labourer.
1861 Census shows he was an Agricultural Labourer and Thatcher.
1881 Census shows that he was a Farm Labourer.

Death Notes

Death was registered between Oct-Dec 1900 in Lexden Registration District.
Parish records show that he was buried at St Mary's Church, Layer Breton, Essex on 13th December 1900 by F Owston. Died at the age of 81 in 1900.

Thomas' family with Ann Finch

Thomas and Ann were married on December 25th, 1845.  They had five sons and four daughters, named Elijah, Thomas, John, Robert, Samuel, Emma, Rachel, Elizabeth and Ann.
Marriage was registered between Oct-Dec 1845 in Lexden Registration District.
Parish records show that they were married in St Mary's Church, Layer Breton, Essex by R W Sutton and Thomas signed his name as GOODDY.
The witnesses were William Wade and John Bundock.
Ann was illiterate.
