1871 Census shows that he was 56 years of age and living in Hedingham, Halstead, Essex.
1881 Census states he was 66 years of age, born in Belchamp St Pauls, Essex and living at Tilbury Hill, Tilbury Juxta Clare, Essex. Parish records show that he was born on 21st June 1814 in Ashen, Essex, and that he was christened on 14th August 1814 in St Augustine Church, Ashen, Essex.
