Joseph was born in 1795.  Joseph's father was Noah Goody and his mother is Sarah Parker.  His paternal grandfather is Thomas Goody and his paternal grandmother was Martha ?????. He had two brothers named James and Abraham.  He was the youngest of the three children.

1851 Census shows that he was 55 years of age, born in Tilbury Juxta Clare, Essex and living in Tilbury Hill, Tilbury Juxta Clare, Essex.

Parish records show they were married in St Mary's Church, Ovington, Essex on 27th May 1828 by Charles Fisher and show that Joseph was a widower.
The witnesses were George Brown and Mary Brown.
Joseph, Ruth, George and Mary were all illiterate.
