James Edward Goody
James was born on July 6th, 1894. James' father was
William Goody and his mother was
Martha Bird. His paternal grandparents were
James Goody and
Ann Richardson. He had five brothers and three sisters, named
Albert,
Arthur,
John,
Albert,
Cecil,
Martha,
Julia and
Emma. He was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
Birth was registered between July-Sept 1894 in Lanchester Registration District.
1901 Census shows that he was 6 years of age, born in Leadgate, County Durham and was living in Iveston, County Durham.
1911 Census shows that he was 16 years of age, born in Leadgate, Co. Durham and living in Lanchester, Co. Durham.
He was born on 6th July 1894 and served with the Northumberland Hussars (Regimental Number 271049)
during the First World War .He was wounded during the Charge at Morlancourt, France on 22nd August 1918, also in the charge was his brother, Albert and he too was wounded. James was returned to England and admitted to Southmead Special Military Surgical Hospital in Bristol with shrapnel wounds in his upper back. He was transferred to Mrs Gerald Lysaght's Hospital (which was affiliated to Southmead Hospital) at Burham-on-Sea, Somerset on 28th February 1919 prior to being discharged from the Army. A letter was sent from Consett Iron Company Ltd in County Durham stating that he would be offered employment as a Putter (Derwent) immediately on his return to civilian life.
1939 Register shows that he was living in 6 Skern Grove, Consett, County Durham.
He was living at 473 Bradley Square, Leadgate, County Durham at the time of his marriage to Mary.
1965 National Probate and Will records show the following:
James Edward of 31 Tyne Avenue Leadgate county Durham died 29 August 1965 Administration Newcastle-upon-Tyne 18 October to Elsie Baker married woman. £663.

Steelworker in Consett Iron Company.
1939 Register shows that he was a Steelworks Labourer.
Death Notes
Death was registered between July-Sept 1965 in Durham North West Registration District.
He died in Leadgate, County Durham and was buried in St Ives Church, Leadgate, County Durham churchyard after a service conducted by Rev. T. Comley.
Died at the age of 71 on August 29th, 1965.
